The state of Nebraska offers opportunities for psychologists to live and learn within its golden boundaries. This state is home to many large corporations and rural areas rich in agriculture. The three largest urban areas of the state are Omaha, Lincoln and Sioux City. There are numerous smaller towns all across the state. With such a large amount of agriculture, the diverse economy can be a bit of a surprise for some people. But there is a strong manufacturing base alongside telecommunications and transportation services. Population growth has flattened out over the last few decades. In the past few decades, the state has been seeing more people leave the rural communities for urban life. This has increased the number of people around the cities and towns. This means more options for psychology majors.
For those interested in pursuing psychology in Nebraska, the urban centers and smaller towns would be the places to look. Educational opportunities can be found in many of the state’s universities and private colleges. Nebraska enjoys hot summers and cold winters. The cost of living is generally lower than the national average with housing being lower as well. This makes Nebraska more affordable and attractive to people wanting the Midwestern life. You can have the small town feel alongside the big city living if that is what you want.

The Nebraska Board of Psychologists is responsible for regulating and licensing psychologists. For those with lesser academic degrees, opportunities are more limited. Teaching at the high school level is an option for those with a bachelor’s degree. Research positions may be found at some universities or public agencies.

Salaries in smaller cities and rural communities will continue to lag behind those in urban centers. Private sector jobs will outstrip public sector ones in salary. Schools and mental health clinics will have a continuing need for psychological services in the foreseeable future. Social Services and private practice are options for jobs as well.
