Forensic Psychology Degrees
In order to become a professional in forensic psychology, individuals must learn the basic applications of psychology at an undergraduate level along with the specifics of forensic work at the post-graduate level. This entails up to 7 years of school or more so that individuals can obtain a PhD in the subject area to become certified to do their job. Once the doctorate degree has been obtained, forensic psychology professionals can find work in forensic labs, with law enforcement, and in research positions if they choose not to work in the applied field. The duties of a forensic psychologist are to study and analyze the crime scene and help create an understanding of how crimes happen, what evidence means and how to determine various elements of a crime due to the forensic details that have been left behind. This career requires licensing and continuing education so that professionals can prove their abilities over the years. Professionals who choose to work in forensic psychology can expect to earn about $59,700 on average, with higher earnings going to those with more experience. Keep in mind that these careers are very enjoyable, but are not nearly as glamorous as they are made to look on TV and in the movies. The future of forensic psychology is very bright. As technology keeps innovating and labs and law enforcement agencies keep making room for new professionals to come in and help with their work, there will be plenty of opportunities for future graduates through the next 8 to 10 years or so.
